Nikom Corporate Office
This project involved the design of a 5,000 sq. ft. corporate office spread across three floors, each accommodating different business functions with unique operational requirements. The design objective was to create a cohesive workplace identity while allowing each floor to support its specific activities and user experience.
Design Challenges
- Multiple Floors with Distinct Functional Requirements
Each floor served a different purpose, resulting in varied planning, workflow, privacy, and collaboration requirements. The challenge was to maintain a unified corporate identity while giving each level its own functional character and spatial experience.
- Limited Natural Daylight
The building had restricted external openings, resulting in limited daylight penetration into the interior workspaces. Without thoughtful planning, the deeper areas of the office risked becoming visually disconnected and less comfortable for occupants.
- Restricted External Views
A significant portion of the workspace had little or no direct access to outdoor views, potentially affecting employee well-being, visual comfort, and the overall workplace experience.
Design Approach
Distinct Identity for Every Floor
Each floor was developed with its own design language based on the nature of work performed. While maintaining a consistent material palette and corporate branding, variations in colour schemes, finishes, lighting, and collaborative spaces created unique identities that reflected the functional requirements of each department.
Integrating Nature into the Workplace
Biophilic design principles were incorporated throughout the project by introducing indoor planting, green pockets, and natural materials. These elements softened the built environment, enhanced visual comfort, improved workplace ambience, and contributed to employee well-being.
Maximising Natural Light
Glass partitions were strategically used instead of opaque walls to allow daylight to travel deeper into the workspace. This approach increased visual openness, reduced dependence on artificial lighting during the day, and created a brighter, more connected office environment.
Enhancing Visual Connectivity
Transparent partitions and carefully planned sightlines enabled employees to benefit from available external views while maintaining functional separation between departments. The resulting workspace felt larger, more open, and visually connected.
